Interview With Toronto Quarterly

Rich Ferguson - 8th & Agony (an interview)

Interview: TTQ – What inspired you to start writing poetry and who were some of your early influences or mentors? Rich Ferguson – One of my earliest inspirations would have to be my Mom. She always read books to me—poetry, fairy tales, Dr. Seuss, you name it. As soon as I could read on my own, I’d read to her. That love of reading transferred into a love of writing. Though it wasn’t until I was in college (Rutgers University) that I realized poetry was my true calling. Upon graduation, I packed up my car—books, drums, music, what few clothes I owned—and headed to California.
